Accession

Romania’s President, Nucousor Dan, advocated strongly today for EU acceptance of 2 of the 9 countries now on their candidacy list. He views Moldova and Ukraine as  being very close to being ready to join as full fledged participants in the union; Dan says Moldova will complete the accession process in three years.. Ukraine, he says, is being prepared technically to qualify as well, if not officially.

Today, and yes I mean today, Ukraine went from being a sleepy  nation of 71% land devoted to agriculture therefore not suited  to large populations complemented by only 28 % of the GDP funded by industry. Inclusive in this quiet pastorale picture of church going communities was an expectation created in the Crimea that citizens would roll over and play dead when Russia roared across the border seeking better parking spots for their artillery. The new crown Ukraine wore today was publicly cited as the “first line of defense”. Two billion dollars has been offered by the European Union to erect a drone wall on the eastern border where Ukraine accesses Russia.

Ukraine did not arrive at this day without a solid and consistent international  fund raising appeal to be admired.  Bordering nations that were attacked this past month, namely, Romania, Poland, and Moldova, will no doubt use their EU voices carefully for the sake of their own futures.  Meanwhile, the people of Ukraine have created a set of New Millennium job descriptions for themselves that won’t be easily written off.
